Senior Marine Engineer – Power & Propulsion

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Marine Engineer – Power & Propulsion at our sites in Govan and Scotstoun, near Glasgow.
As a Senior Marine Engineer – Power & Propulsion, you will be carrying out specialist technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
This role will provide you with great career progression and an opportunity to work on complex mechanical propulsion systems where you will further develop your existing skills and knowledge.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Marine Engineer – Power & Propulsion will involve:
- Participating in developing, maintaining and modifying engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational needs
- Carrying out specialist technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability
- Preparing specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained
- Carrying out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team
- Supporting the Principal engineer as the specialist point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
- Supporting the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in area(s) of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bids
- Providing help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development
- Making engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility
Your skills and qualifications:
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.
Essentials;
- 5 Years’ experience in engineering or a defence related industry
- Experience in Power and Propulsion
- Experience and expertise, in Marine Engineering Systems
- Experience in the design, build, integration, support and operation of Naval ships.
- Knowledge of processes and tools used in Marine Engineering
- Awareness of Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programmes
- Understands how marine engineering integrates into other technologies and products
Desirable;
- Degree qualified in an engineering or other related discipline
- Meet the requirements for registration as Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council and be a member of a relevant Professional Body

Salary: £39,000 to £44,850 depending on qualifications and experience
